INTERVAL-BASED THROWING PROGRAM

Interval-based throwing programs are used to help the athlete train, condition, and rehabilitate the throwing arm. These programs generally consist of both short and long toss components.

The objective of the short toss component is to stimulate the physical demands that occur in game situations.

The objective of the long toss component is to provide low-intensity, long duration stimulation to the thrower and to increase arm strength.

The program can be tailored for both pitchers and position players. It is extremely important for any program to be monitored by a coach or trainer and approved by a physician if the athlete has an injury.

The athlete should follow the program as described and not overthrow or under-throw to obtain maximum results. It is more beneficial to follow the number of throws than limit throws by suggested times.
