Baseball - Throwing Mechanics
| Changes in
pitching biomechanics from fatigue Escamilla RF, Barrentine SW, Fleisig GS, Zheng N, Takada Y, Kingsley D, Andrews JR. Pitching biomechanics as a pitcher approaches muscular fatigue during a simulated baseball game. Am J Sports Med 35:23-33, 2007. Ten collegiate pitchers threw 15 pitches per inning for 7 to 9 innings in a laboratory setting. As the pitcher approached fatigue, there was a significant decrease in ball velocity and the trunk was more upright at the instant of ball release. No other kinematic differences were observed There were no differences in kinetics (shoulder and elbow force and torque) between early innings and late innings. Thus, this study was unable to show increased kinetics as a pitcher approached fatigue. Copyright ©
