Foot and Ankle Fellowship

GOALS AND CHARACTERISTICS

This Fellowship is designed to provide an in-depth experience in adult reconstructive foot and ankle management and surgery. The setting is in a large private referral clinic, particularly noted for its care of high performance athletes. However, patients of all walks of life are also treated here on a regular basis.

The Fellow will participate in all aspects of foot and ankle care, from private clinic experience, detailed physical therapy involvement, pedorthic and orthotic care, and extensive operating room exposure. Care of problems in the juvenile are interspersed with problems of aging and the elderly.

Fellows have access to anatomic specimens and to outstanding arthroscopy, biomechanics, and motion analysis laboratories. They will also participate in the weekly lecture and teaching sessions provided by and for the other Fellows and residents in the programs of the American Sports Medicine Institute. Outstanding teaching materials, including audiovisuals, are available at the Institute. A monthly Journal Club for Foot and Ankle is also on going. Each Fellow is expected to complete a basic science or clinical project and to prepare a publishable manuscript by the completion of the Fellowship. Alumni of the program will participate with other Fellows of the Institute and of the Alabama Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center.
