Communications![]() Over the years, the ASMI Communications Department has been recognized for its production of quality audio/visual materials. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has selected 24 ASMI videos for presentation at its annual conventions, and has recognized 13 of those videos as "award winners." Medical Video Productions, producers of Video Journal of Orthopaedics, has worked with the department, and Drs. James R. Andrews and William H. Clancy to produce several issues. The department has also provided video footage for local, national, and international news organizations. The Communications Department maintains an extensive library of videotapes, and slide presentations. A few of these videos and presentations are available for purchase through ASMI. ASMI also houses over 7,000 hours of raw arthroscopic surgery footage and over 675 edited, program-length production videos, which are used for teaching purposes. In addition, the slide library contains over 75,000 slides and 350 presentations. The ASMI Communications Department is exploring the cutting edge of production technology to continue to be a leading producer of medical media. The department is testing new digital videotape formats, non-linear editing systems, and computer programs that capture, enhance, and manipulate photographic and video images. This technology will allow the department to be more effective and efficient than ever before. Non-profit foundations like ASMI have limited budgets for capital improvements. However, there are numerous opportunities for cooperative projects and/or sponsorship of equipment purchases to assist the Communications Department. Please contact Glenn Dortch, Director of Media Services, to discuss these opportunities or any other services that the department can provide. |
